The Web-based HIV Information for Northern Nevada (WHINN) project is designed to give HIV/AIDS caregivers in northern Nevada and the HIV-at risk population access to Internet information resources.  WHINN is a Website where both health professionals and consumers can come to a centralized location to find relevant information about HIV/AIDS from evaluated Internet sources.  WHINN makes valuable HIV/AIDS information easier to find for health professionals and consumers.

WHINN strives to accomplish the following goals:

  • supply paths to the most current and reliable information about HIV/AIDS for care providers, so they can give quality treatment to patients as well as educate their patients about HIV/AIDS
  • make it possible for consumers to find information about HIV/AIDS care, treatment, testing, personal problems associated with HIV/AIDS, organizations, and resources
  • and benefit northern Nevada's HIV/AIDS and at-risk population by increasing awareness of programs and services available through care-providing agencies serving the region.

WHINN was formed through a partnership between the Savitt Medical Library -- University of Nevada School of Medicine and the Washoe Medical Center Library.  The project was funded by a grant from the National Library of Medicine, sub-contracted through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine/Pacific Southwest Region.
